Over the past few years, we’ve seen Anakin Skywalker become Darth Vader, Batman rise as a “Dark Knight,” and James T. Kirk nab his captain’s chair, and soon we will see how King Kong became ruler of Skull Island.
Spirit Pictures has acquired the rights to the 2004 novel Kong: King of Skull Island, which acted as both a sequel and a prequel to 1933′s King Kong, telling the history of Skull Island and how the big ape fought his way to the top of the food chain.
The story follows Vincent, Carl Denham’s son, and Jack Driscoll as they go to Skull Island in search of his father, who has been missing for 25 years. On the island, Vincent comes across a native, who tells him the story of Kong and how his presence has affected the island.
The film will utilize the same motion capture technology that Rober Zemeckis has been showing off for years with The Polar Express, Beowulf, and most recently, A Christmas Carol. A release date has not been announced.
