It’s hard to believe that Ghostbusters 3 may actually happen, but with the cast reunited in the super-fun video game released earlier this year and talk from actor Bill Murray, who seemed reluctant to return until recently, thinks are looking positive!
Word is that director Ivan Reitman is returning for yet another ectoplasmic adventure! Reitman directed both the original 1984 film and the 1989 sequel, along with classics such as Stripes, Meatballs, and Dave. While it’s quite probable that he will return as a producer, it isn’t quite clear if he will return to the director’s chair.
Not much is known about the sequel. Dan Aykroyd has been talking for years about a treatment he wrote about the four paranormal investigators encountered a hellish version of New York City. It is unknown whether or not elements of that story outline will figure into the new film, but apparently the story takes place years after Venkman, Egon, Ray, and Winston closed up shop only to re-open their business and make another comeback. Didn’t that also happen in Ghostbusters II?
