Marc Webb to Direct Spider-Man Reboot

Will it be (500) Days of Spider-Man?

Sony has found their latest Spider-Man director! You may or may not recognize the name Marc Webb, but he recently directed a wonderful film called (500) Days of Summer, which was up for a few Golden Globe nominations.  Here is what Sony had to say on his behalf:

“At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker’s life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter’s shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man’s adventure. We believe Marc Webb is the perfect choice to bring us on that journey.”

Besides Summer, Webb has directed a variety of music videos for bands like 3 Doors Down and Green Day. This, of course, will be his first film of epic proportions. Some might wonder if he can handle an effects-heavy project of this magnitude, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Now that this issue is settled, let’s move on to more pressing matters. Who is going to step in for Tobey Maguire? There have been many rumors so far. Many of them I hope never come to pass, but the one I find most interesting is Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, 21). As many of you might remember, Sturgess was rumored to be in the running to play Peter Parker in the Broadway version of Spider-Man.
