Car factory scene a Hitchcock hommage?
« on: July 12, 2010, 03:25:28 PM »
I'm currently reading the splendid 50 hours interview that Francois Truffaut did with Alfred Hitchcock over a couple of days and while talking about "North by North-West" Hitchcock explains a scene he intended to shoot but ultimately never did. It reminds me so strongly of the car factory scene in Minority Report that I had to think of the Spielberg movie at the instant I read Hitchcock describe the scene.

Has anyone ever heard of Spielberg talking about this scene being inspired by Hitchcock's idea?
Or do you think this is just coincidential? Personally, I find it hard to believe that it is coincidentally.

According to IMDB, the car factory scene was inspired by Hitchcock's idea.

Both films also have similar plots, as well.

Well, Thornhill and Anderton are both accused of murder. Then they run all over the place and try clearing their names.

I only wrote similar, keep in mind.

Thanks for link! Wasn't aware of this, but I found it just too strange if this was just coincidental.
So, it was inspired by the Hitchcock scene.

That interview book btw. is something that every film fan should read. I wish somebody with the insights of Monsieur Truffaut would do something similar with Spielberg one day.
