There is a pretty big rumor floating around that several Spielberg classics are slowly, but surely making their way to Blu Ray. You’ve probably already heard the A.I. and Jurassic Park rumors. Sadly, neither have been confirmed.
The latest word on the street is that a hi-def copy of Saving Private Ryan will be hitting the market on March 25, 2010. This story, also unconfirmed, originates from a German website that has allegedly gotten a glimpse at a list of upcoming releases from a retail chain called Saturn. Minority Report is also rumored to show up in 2010.
As of right now, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Poltergeist, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Twilight Zone: The Movie are the only titles out of Spielberg’s long resume of films to have received the Blu Ray treatment. I have no doubt that in the next couple years, that amount will double and more of his films will be available in 1080p. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Jaws were to be announced, as well, given it’s upcoming 35th anniversary.
