Today is a sad day for 007 fans. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have announced that they’ve been forced to put the next James Bond film on hold indefinitely.
“Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on BOND 23 indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of BOND 23″
It’s a shame that MGM isn’t able to get this film off the ground. The James Bond series is their prize franchise and probably one of the few things that has been keeping them afloat for the past decade. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Sony, who piggybacked the past couple Bond films for their theatrical releases, swoops in and swipes the franchise from right from MGM’s dying hands.
Hopefully, MGM can once again pick itself up and carry on the James Bond tradition with Daniel Craig in the lead role. But the chances of that dream coming true aren’t looking good.
