Since Superman II came out in 1980, the Man of Steel hasn’t really gotten the respect he’s deserved. Ever since the Salkinds decided to turn the beloved superhero into a Richard Pryor farce, Warner Bros. has spent the past two decades trying to “fix” Superman.
The studio is bringing Christopher Nolan in as a producer to get the ball rolling again, so they can deliver a more “sophisticated” Superman film. This is great news! This could mean that instead of a superficial action film, we could get a Superman film that is purely driven by character and story .
But there is also some bad news. Time is running out! In 2013, the Seigels and Shusters will completely reclaim the property and there might be a lawsuit involved if Warner Bros. and DC doesn’t start production by 2011. Another concern is that they could make “Superman 3.0″ a bit too dark. Let’s just say that there is a reason why Superman and Batman don’t belong on the screen together.
Also, this news could be overblown and Nolan’s influence could be minimal. Remember that he’s still working on Inception and apparently is brainstorming an idea for Batman 3 with his brother, Jonah Nolan, and David Goyer.
