Roland Emmerich has become Death, the destroyer of cinematic worlds, and the newest poster for the director’s latest magnum opus”2012″ does nothing to hide it. Reminiscent of many of the posters for Emmerich’s 2004 “The Day After Tomorrow”, if a bit uglier (in a good way), it conveys effectively what to expect on the screen–mass destruction on an epic scale. Perfectly reasonable for a movie based on the theory that global cataclysms and apocalyptic events will unfold in the year 2012 as supposedly predicted by the end of the Mayan calendar.
Penned also by Emmerich and composer Harald Kloser, the film stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, and Thandie Newton as the hopeful survivors.
As the tag line of the poster reads, we’ve been warned. Come November 13th, audiences will see if Roland Emmerich and co. make good on their threat.
