Looks like director Robert Zemeckis’ 4th adventure in his 3-D motion capture playground will be a remake of Yellow Submarine, the 1968 animated film starring The Beatles, for Walt Disney Pictures.
The original film took place in Pepperland where The Beatles (voiced by other actors) must free the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, who have been captured by the Blue Meanies. Many of the band’s classic hits appear as elaborate musical numbers throughout the film.
While very little details are known at this time, we do know that Zemeckis and Disney are attempting to obtain the rights to use all 16 of the classic songs used in the original film, and looking to release the film sometime in the summer of 2012.
