The sky must have fallen on Steven Spielberg’s head again, because he has chosen Harvey as his next project.
Based on Mary Chase’s famed play, Harvey tells the story of Edward P. Dowd, an eccentric man with an invisible, human-sized rabbit for a friend. Since debuting in 1944, the play has been adapted into film four times, once for the big screen and three times for television.
Hopping along with Spielberg is author Jonathan Tropper, who will serve as the film’s screenwriter. Tropper has written several novels, like Everything Changes and How to Talk to a Widower, but this will be his first screenplay.
With 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks co-financing the film, Harvey will be spearheaded into pre-production right away. The film is expected to go before cameras sometime in early 2010.
