Fresh off Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton has found a new project to direct. He’s going to back to Charles Addams’ original source material to re-imagine The Addams Family for the realm of stop motion animation.
The Addams Family originated as a single panel comic strip published in The New Yorker inĀ 1938. In the 60s, ABC produced a television series, which premiered six days before The Munsters debuted on CBS. Two animated series were produced, one in 1973 (which featured a young Jodie Foster as Pugsley) and another in 1992. In the early 90s, Barry Sonnenfield directed a pair of Addams films, starringĀ Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston.
Burton is currently working on a feature based on his Frankenweenie short. Back in January, it was reported that he would direct a film based on the villain from Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent. It’s uncertain where that project stands now.
