While Dark Shadows has been in the lottery for quite some time, Tim Burton has finally confirmed it as his next project while at this weeks’ San Diego Comic Con.
Dark Shadows, of course, was a gothic soap opera that premiered on ABC in the late 60′s. It lasted 5 years and had an astonishing 1225 episodes, featuring a deranged line up of monsters, ghouls, and warlocks.
Perhaps the most famous of these infernal creature characters was the vampire Barnabas Collins, who will be played by none other than Johnny Depp, who I’d swear is never further than five steps away from Burton. Makes me wonder if Burton can’t film his kids’ ballet recitals without having Depp step in and play the lead. Depp, of course, has gone on record stating that he is not only a fan of the show, but that playing Barnabas would be his dream come true.
Production won’t begin until after Alice in Wonderland is finished. No release date has been announced.
