Tron Legacy Concept Footage Officially Released

The Cybernetic World of Tron Gets a Firmware Upgrade!

Grid_VFX_ConceptTest_iPod2Ever since Disney first showed Tron 2 concept footage to a lucky Comic-Con audience back in 2008, we’ve been dying to see it! Call it curiosity! Even back when I first even heard the title Tron 2.0 uttered, I’ve been finding myself wondering ‘what would a modern Tron look like?’

Finally, after a year’s worth of impatience, Disney has released the footage for everyone to see and, I must say, a lot has changed since the original Tron. No longer is its cyber world filled with just solid, cubic shapes and eye-straining color. The lightcycles are now detailed and inhabit a neon universe that is slicker and shinier than ever before. The city in the background even looks like a city! Even the new costumes are more pleasing to the eye. But there are some things that haven’t changed. The surface is still nothing more than a grid and the characters still use it to play deadly games with fancy motor cycles that leave behind them a trail of impenetrable color. It’s the same world we once knew, just more evolved.

Tron Legacy follows the adventures of Sean Flynn, Kevin Flynn’s son, as he searches for his father in the same computer world we first ventured into back in ’82. Both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner are set to reprise their roles as Flynn and Alan. The film is scheduled to be released sometime in 2010.
