Who Framed Roger Rabbit… Again?

roger-rabbit-560x364Could a sequel to the 1988 hit Who Framed Roger Rabbit be in our future? Well, Robert Zemeckis says to a San Diego Comic Con audience “I can neither confirm nor deny it.” That’s not all! Zemeckis was also asked to speculate whether or not he would produce a CGI cartoon rabbit for a possible sequel, to which he replied:

“I will tell you this – if that ever does happen, the 2D animated characters will remain 2D. They will not be dimensionalized, but that doesn’t mean other parts won’t be in 3D”

I’ve seen some speculation suggesting that computer generated characters, like those from Pixar movies, could show up in the film, but remember that the original took place in the  late 1940′s, long before Pixar hit the scene. To me, it looks like a hint that if a sequel was to be made, it would be in 3D, not that 3D cartoon characters will be included into the story. Although, a part of me wonders what a present day story would be like. Maybe a story about old time cartoon characters struggling to keep their toes in show business as they are losing all their work to computer generated characters like Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Incredible. That could be interesting!

Either way, this is all based on speculation. No one has actually said that a Roger Rabbit 2 is in the cards, but at the same time, no one has ever said it isn’t. It’s a bit strange that Zemeckis didn’t say “No, not happening.” So either he’s fooling with us or he actually is considering making a sequel. But keep in mind, this is the guy who fooled an entire generation of children into believing hover boards were real!
