Will Chris Pine Be the New Jack Ryan?

The new Captain Kirk eyeing a job at the CIA

DGG-017997Chris Pine might follow in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck in becoming the fourth actor to play Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst who happens to keep finding himself in missions of both political and military importance.

The latest film will become the first in the series to not be based off a novel. The screenplay will be written by Hossein Amini, who previously worked on 2008′s Killshot and 2002′s The Four Feathers.

Ryan first appeared in the 1984 novel The Hunt for Red October and has appeared in nearly 12 books since then. In 1990, Red October made it to the big screen with Baldwin filling his shoes. In 1992, Baldwin was replaced by Ford in Patriot Games, the weakest entry in the film series. Ford returned for Clear and Present Danger before Affleck took over in the 2002 reboot The Sum of All Fears.

No other details on the new film are available at this time.
